ANNUAL MEETING OF ORPHANS CLUB

MEMBERSHIP ROLL WELL MAINTAINED The thirty-eighth annual meeting of the Invercargill Orphans Club was held on Saturday night, Bro. President J. H. Reed presiding over a good attendance . of members. The annual report and balance-sheet showed that the season had been a successful one. The membership roll had been well maintained and the attendances at the meetings were good. Bro. Reed, on his re-election as president of the club for the seventh year in succession, thanked the members for their continued confidence in him. It was, he said, the feeling of friendship among the members that enabled the club to carry on so harmoniously.

Other office-bearers elected were:— Vice-presidents, Bros. J. M. McCrostie, J. N. Armour and J. D. Gilmore; hon. treasurer, Bro. S. J. B. Hill; hon. secretary, Bro. J. Pickard; committee, Bros. Dr. S. E. V. Brown, F. E. R. Booth, J. K. Garrett, H. H. Royds, D. J. Wesney and the Rev. C. J. Tocker; auditors, Bros. J. M. McCrostie and R. M. Strang; stage manager, Bro. P. L. Hodge; chief steward, Bro. D. A. Dunn; conductor of orchestra, Bro. F. Lange; ushers, Bros. A. W. Jones and W. White; membership committee, Bros. J.

H. Reed, D. W. McKay, P. L. Hodge; programme committee, Bros. J. M. McCrostie, F. Jones and F. Lange. The opening night of the season was fixed for Saturday, May 18. The report stated that seniority bars were presented to the following during the season: 35 years, Bro. D. W. McKay; 28 years, Bro. J. A. Doig; 14 years, Bros. P. Brass, W. White, S. C. K. Smith, H. W. Ashley, R. T. Barnett, G. R. Baxter, A. C. Carman, J T. Macdonald, J. S. Brass and A. W. Jones; seven years, Bros. E. J. Read, J. W. Wood, F. E. R. Booth, F. Jones and C. E. Just. During the year two energetic members, Bros. A. E. Lea and W. H. Coltman, had left the district and since the end of the season Bro. E. J. Read had also left Invercargill. Two members, Bros. E. Wren and D. W. McKay, had celebrated their golden weddings and had received the congratulations of the club.
