DOG trials at LOCHIEL

RECORD ENTRIES AND GOOD ATTENDANCE ANNUAL TWO-DAY FIXTURE BEGUN Record entries for the first two events on the programme were received by the Lochiel Collie Dog Trials Club for its annual two-day fixture, which began yesterday on Mr J. McFadziens farm. The weather was bright and sunny and there was a record attendance. The fixture will end today. Competition was keen in the. maiden event, which attracted 22 entries. The sheep were good-conditioned twotooth ewes and provided a good test for the dogs. Good progress was made with the short pull, in which 30 dogs are taking part. Results:— MAIDEN HEAD.—Head, bringing back and holding in ring, 400 yards. For dogs that have never won a first prize. Time, eight minutes. First prize £3, second £l/10/-, third 15/-. W. Hickey’s Bradman, 52pts 1 A. R. Watson’s Maid, 50pts 2 J. Cook’s Snap, 49pts 3 A. Stevens’s Tweed, 48pts 4 Also competed: R. Queale’s Rock 41, D. McFadzien’s Sandy 37, J. R. Thomson’s Tan 39, A. Calder’s Tim 41, D. McKercher’s Bob 46, P. Turnbull’s Wag 43, J. Lawlor’s Kip 42, T. Clearwater’s Ben 37, J. Lawlor’s King 47, A. B. Millar’s Robin —, J. T. Brass’s Jim —, C. Kerr’s Bess 44, J. Bradman cast out on the right and made a good head in one minute. He let the sheep off the line before coming to the fence, but carried on in a fair line. The sheep entered the back of the ring in 4min lOsec. He held well in the ring. Time, 4min 41sec. Maid cast out on the right very wide in a good line. She headed in Imin lOsec. She lifted rashly and pulled in a good line, but rather fast. The sheep entered the back of the ring in 4min lOsec. The dog was out of position several times. Time, smin 2sec. Snap cast out on the right very wide. She made a good head and maintained a wide cast. In pulling she let the sheep off the line and pulled a little fast. The sheep went through the ring in the first attempt. They then entered the back of the ring. Snap showed a fair grip of the sheep at the ring. She completed in 4min 15sec. Tweed cast out on the right very wide. She made a good even cast and made a good head in Imin 20secs. She lifted carefully and pulled in a failline, but let the sheep drift near the fence. She had trouble in getting through the fence, barked, and carried on in a fair line to the ring. Her holding in the ring was fair. She steadied the sheep after several attempts. She entered the ring in 6min lOsec and completed in 7min 40sec.
