WRESTLING SEASON OPENS

SERGEANT BLOMFIELD IN WINNING FORM (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 22. The wrestling season was opened in Auckland when Sergeant Lofty Blomfield, of the New Zealand Military Forces, defeated Chief Little Wolf, American Red Indian, before a crowd which filled the house to overflowing. Blomfield, who was given a very fine reception, gained the only fall in the match, this being by means of a body press following a succession of elbow jolts and two slams in the sixth round.

WELLINGTON SEASON OPENS WITH FAST BOUT (United press Association) WELLINGTON, April 22. Wellington’s centennial wrestling season opened with a tough, torrid bout between two well-matched, hardfighting matmen, Dick Raines and Joe Corbett. They drew with one fall each. Corbett, who was making his New Zealand debut, proved a fast, vigorous, scientific wrestler, capable of taking and returning rough handling. He took the first fall in the fourth round, setting about Raines with stomach throws and pinning him with a cradle hold. Raines drew even in the sixth round when he twice dumped Corbett across his knee in a backbreaker and then pinned him. There was a full house.
