WAIRIO
LABOUR PARTY GOOD ATTENDANCE AT ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Wairio branch of the Labour Party which was held in the public hall, Wairio, was presided over by Mr J. Blackwell (president). There was a good attendance of members. The president referred to the death of the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage and also to the death of Mr Patrick Hogan, a branch member, and asked those present to stand in silence as a token of sympathy with their relations. In presenting the annual balancesheet and statement of accounts the president remarked on a slight fallingoff from 45 to 37 members due principally to removals from the district. The branch undertook to raise £45 towards the Labour daily newspaper which was duly forwarded to the head office, Wellington. The total receipts for the year were £64/7/9, of which social functions and euchre evenings contributed £54/5/2, while with the expenses incurred and the £45 for the Labour daily newspaper leaves a credit balance of £3/14/1. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—President, Mr J. Blackwell; secretary, Mr John Egan; treasurer, Mr J. Hogan; last year’s committee was re-elected. It was decided to hold monthly euchre evenings.
