RUSSIAN BASES IN SIBERIA

U.S. TERRITORY NOT FAR AWAY INTEREST TAKEN BY AMERICAN ARMY GRANT FOR DEFENCES IN ALASKA SOUGHT (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received April 21, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 19. The Washington correspondent of the Associated Press 'of America says it is understood that the army confirmed that Russia has established air and naval bases on the Siberian coast less than 100 miles from the American-owner Aleutian Islands. It is believed the Army High Command takes the attitude that the bases arc designed primarily against a possible Japanese attack on Siberia, but is unable to assume that the establishments would never be used against the United States. The reports have revived the army request for an appropriation to construct an air base at the Anchorage in Alaska.
