The engagement is announced of Eileen, daughter of Mr and Mrs D. Macgregor, Yarrow street, Invercargill, and Max, only son of Mr and Mrs H. Bocock, Chelmsford street, Invercargill.
Mrs J. Chilwell, Underwood, entertained a number of friends at her home yesterday afternoon. Mrs R. B. Ham, Dunedin, will arrive on Monday to be the guest of Mrs S. G. Dinniss, Ramrig street. Miss C. W. Grimwood, Melbourne, formerly of Invercargill, is the guest ot Miss D. Brodrick Waikiwi. Miss L. F. Watson, Forth street will leave next Wednesday on a visit to Wellington. Miss Mary Bradshaw, Janet street, left yesterday to spend a holiday at Stewart Island. Mr and Mrs E. M. Nicholson, Pomona street, left Invercargill this week to take up residence in Oamaru. Mrs D. E. Hansen, Christchurch, who is visiting her daughter, Mrs M. MMacdonald, Kelvin street, will return home on Tuesday. Mrs W. E. Hazlett, Filleul street, who has been visiting Christchurch and Wellington, will return home by this evening’s express. Miss Ellen E. Powell, of the Southland Education Board’s relieving staff, has been appointed assistant mistress at the Nightcaps school. Miss M. Lambie, Director of Nursing for the Department of Health, is at present on a visit to Invercargill on departmental business. Mr and Mrs Charles Bridgeman, Glencoe, who have been visiting Wetlington and the Centennial Exhibition, have returned south. Mrs George Gordon, Wainui, Garston, came to town yesterday for a briet visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs C. Williams, West Plains. . Mrs Denis Chapman, Christchurch, who has been visiting relations in Southland, will return north tomorrow night. Mrs W. G. Stead, Hastings, who has been visiting the Lakes district, will
arrive from Queenstown today to be the guest of Mrs A. S. Gilkison, Avenal Hats.
Mrs B. J. Paterson and her daughter Judith will arrive from Napier tonight and will be the guests of Mrs Arthur Stevens, Perth street, before taking up residence in Riverton.
