Mr R. F. Jones, of Invercargill, has been elected to the council of the New Zealand Society of Customs Agents. Mr C. S. Mackay, manager of the Southland reception room at the Centennial Exhibition, left Invercargill by the afternoon express yesterday on his return to Wellington.
Mr W. F. Swift, manager of the Government Tourist Office at Invercargill, left yesterday to spend his annual leave in (he north. He will return towards the end of May. Dr R. Moore, of Palmerston North, has been appointed house surgeon at the Southland Hospital. Mr J. W. Wood, at the meeting yesterday of the importers’ committee of the Invercargill Chamber of .Commerce, was ’ appointed the Invercargill representative at a meeting of importers to be held in Wellington next Tuesday. Mr Robert Muir, who leaves for Wigram soon to join the Royal New Zealand Air Force, was met by his fellow workers of R. G. Speirs, Ltd., and received a presentation. Mr E. B. Taylor, Assistant-Secretary of Labour, will represent the New Zealand Government at this year’s International Labour Conference at Geneva. He has already left for Geneva. Whether a Cabinet Minister will also attend has not yet been decided. Mr L. A. Robb, president of the New South Wales branch of the Returned Sailors’ and Soldiers’ Imperial League of Australia, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. He will attend the centennial celebrations at Akaroa today and will leave for Dunedin tomorrow morning.
Mr W. L. Graham, L.D.S., R.C.S. (Edin.), has been appointed lecturer in dental prosthetics at the Auckland University College as from April 4 in succession to Mr J. H. Kinnear, who has joined the military forces. Mr Graham is in charge of the Auckland Hospital Board’s dental clinic. Mr N. H. Mackie, district valuer in Palmerston North for the Valuation Department, has been transferred to Wellington and becomes inspecting valuer for the North and South Islands. Captain R. D. Stewart master of the Wanganui Harbour Board’s dredge Kaione, has been appointed harbour master at Wanganui. The appointment is to be reviewed in 12 months. Captain Stewart has been in the service of the board since 1936.
