BEST LETTER FOR THE WEEK

Otapiri R.D., Winton, 8/4/40. Dear Cousin Betty, We had a lovely piece of tapestry sent to us from dad. It had a lovely picture of an Egyptian house on it. We had a letter from dad on April 4, and he said that one Sunday just after church he was looking out to sea and in the distance he saw an aeroplane send up a smoke signal and dive into the middle of the sea. Then he saw a lot of ships hurried to the place where the aeroplane had gone down, and all the people were saved.

Have you been to the Exhibition yet? My uncle and two of his friends left the other day to go, and they said that they were going in an aeroplane. . .My great-granny is staying with us now for a holiday.

We have nine Canadian geese. They are just like black swans, and they have long necks too. One time a goose went away from home and the people said that he was a black swan. For a start we only had one, and it went away a lot of times. Love from, RONA SHAND. [Rona’s father is with the New Zealand troops in Egypt.—CH.]
