COUSIN BETTY’S LETTER

My Dear Cousins,

First I want to draw the attention of the members of the Silver Fern (Scattered) Clan to an announcement in the Clan Notes and News. The secretary is resigning, and each of the members may choose a name from the list given, and send it to me next week. With such a big number of members scattered all over Southland this seems to be the most satisfactory method of voting for a new secretary. A Little Southlander at present in hospital has asked if any of you have comic papers you could lend 'or give him. I think it would be a good idea to send him a bundle, and then he culd read them and pass them on to other sick children. So if you have any comic papers, send or bring them to Cousin Betty. I know you all hope that this cousin will soon be well again. In the Chronicle this week you will find a sample limerick which you could study if you are not too sure of the construction of this type of verse. Some of the entries which have already been sent in are not true limericks, as they do not conform to the set pattern. One verse is particularly good, but as it is not really a limerick it cannot be considered for a prize. Limericks have a definite pattern, so read the sample given before you write your entry. There will be great excitement on Table-top Land when the one-act plays are being judged. The early ones which arrived during the week are of a high standard, and if they are all as good it will be difficult to choose the best ones. Percy Pencil says he will build a Table-top theatre and produce the prize-winners, with himself, of course in the principal role. Penelope Pen has offered to be stage manager, and all of my helpers have agreed to take parts. Cousin Betty says she will be an audience of one, and has promised to clap loudly in all the right places.

Your loving
