PRIMARY SCHOOL COMMITTEES

BIENNIAL MEETINGS. OF HOUSEHOLDERS REPORTS FROM COUNTRY CENTRES Tlie following additional reports of the biennial meetings of householders to elect primary school committees throughout Southland have been received:

RIVERTON— Mr G. Cloughley presided. The sum of £lB4 had been spent on the grounds and gardens through the No. 13 Scheme, stated the annual report. The committee offered the head master its congratulations on the fine gardens. The gardens had been photographed for display at the Centennial Exhibition. The Dental Clinic, originally sponsored by the committee, had been established, and was giving every satisfaction.

The balance-sheet showed that the general expenses of the school had been £455/12/11, against which grants amounting to £396/17/3 had been received. The sum of £7O/4/4 had been raised for special purposes, such as prizes, milk fund, and projector account. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The chairman congratulated the committee on the report and also congratulated the Rector on the beautiful gardens and the fine teaching services that were being given by himself and his staff.

QUEENSTOWN. — There was a good attendance of householders and Mr Royds presided. The chairman gave a very comprehensive report of the work done by the committee during its term of office, stating that it was mainly through the efforts of the school committee that the new school residence was built. Messrs J. S. Royds (chairman), L. Lee (secretary) and R. J. Fuller and R. Mclntyre, were reelected a committee.

GORGE ROAD.— Seven householders were present and Mr L. A. Niederer presided. The roll number- for the school is 55 and the average attendance for the year was 54.9. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £52/14/5. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs L. A. Niederer (chairman), D. J. Thomas (secretary), R. S. Gulliver, T. G. Peters, B. Hill.

HEDGEHOPE.— There was a fair attendance of householders and Mr J. Sanderson presided. The annual state-

ment showed a satisfactory credit balance. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs J. Sanderson (chairman), Mr F. Blackler (secretary), Messrs G. Mackay, A. Skinner, G. Horton.

KAPUKA SOUTH.— About 12 householders were present and Mr H. Johnson presided. The roll number for the school is 12 and the average attendance for the year was 10. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £5/13/9. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs H. Johnson (chairman), H. Murphy (secretary), W. Monk, D. Chalmers and T. Waghom.

LORA GORGE.— Five householders were present and Mr J. A. Taylor presided. The roll number for the school is 17 and the average attendance for the year was 16.2. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £l6. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs J. A. Taylor (chairman and secretary), C. McDonald, R. Hamilton, T. Middleton and R. McRae.

LONG BUSH.— Eight householders were present and Mr M. Timpany presided. The roll number for the school is 46, and the average attendance for the year was 43.2. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £25. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs H. Smith (chairman), S. Foley (secretary), M. Timpany, A. Hall, D. Todd, G. Browning.

MERRIV ALE.— About 10 householders were present and Mr A. F. Henderson presided. The roll number for the school is 22 and the average attendance for the year was 20. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £7/17/11. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs W. R. Ridder (chairman), T. M. Watson (secretary), J. T. Rabbitfe, W. Devery, R. Garrett.

MYROSS BUSH.— Six householders were present and Mr W. J. McKenzie presided. The roll number for the school is 30 and the average attendance for the year was 28. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs W. J. McKenzie (chairman), A. R. Dawson (secretary), A. Baird, J. O. Cameron, C. Henderson.

MORTON MAINS.— Seven householders were present and Mr H. Blackmore presided. The roll number for the school is 23 and the average attendance for the year was 22. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £lB/16/1. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messr F. Fleming (chairman), T. Galt (secretary), H. Sheat, K. R. Kemp and J. W. Meredith.

NIAGARA.— Mr J. Biggar presided. The roll number for the school is 40. The annual statement showed a credit balance of just over £3O. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year: Messrs J. Biggar (chairman), A. Robson (secretary), W. Hayes, W. Ballantyne, L. Haldane.

OKEPUKI. — Five householders were present, but there were not sufficient to elect a committee.

OTAHUTI.— Five householders were present and Mr T. McKenzie presided. The roll number for the school is 26 and the average attendance for the year was 25.6. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £B/3/6. The following were elected a committee foi the ensuing year:—Messrs Thomas McKenzie (chairman), R. Shields (secretary), J. Adams, D. Dawson, J. McCrostie.

RIVERSDALE.— About 20 householders were present and Mr Kerr presided. The roll number for the school is 97. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £l3. The following were elected a committee for the

ensuing year:—Messrs Kerr (chairman), Clearwater (secretary), Wicks, McKenzie, Hodge, *. Kelsey, Sanson, Clark.

ROSLYN BUSH.— Eight householders were present and Mr W. Caldwell presided. The roll number for the school is 20 and the average attendance for the year was 22.5. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £35/13/7. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:— Messrs A. Jack (chairman), A. Grenville (acting secretary), J. Kennard, M. O’Rourke, A. Stevens, L. Whyte.

SHOTOVER LOWER.— There was a fair attendance of householders and Mr F. Shanks presided. The present roll number for the school is 14 and the average attendance for last year was 10 The annual statement showed a credit balance of £l2. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs T. M. Houston (chairman), W. Boyd (secretary), J. G. Allan, J. McLean, A. Mackay.

TE ANAU.— Seven householders were present and Mr T. Plato presided. The roll number for the school is 10 and the average attendance for the year was 10. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £l2/16/5. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs C. McIvor (chairman), J. Isaacs (secretary), G. McGregor, T. Plato, G. Carroll, W. Beer, C. Herron.

TOKANUI.— Eight householders were present and Mr R. Chisholm presided. The roll number for the school is 45. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £l7. The following committee was elected: —Messrs Chisholm, Blue, Heatherington, F. Shirley, L. McEwan.

WOODLANDS.— Eight householders were present and Mr M. Schmidt presided. The roll number for the school is 90 and the average attendance for the year was 80.5. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £49. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs M. Schmidt (chairman), W. Bell (secretary), Messrs Gaudin, Fleming, Hackett, Paul, and Wyeth.

WAEVIAHAKA.— Six householders were present and Mr A. Mitchell presided. The roll number for the school is 50 and the average attendance for the year was 48. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £B/10/6. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing vear:—Messrs A. Mitchell (chairman). W. Stirling (secretary), J. Fox. T. Millar, J. Stewart.

WAIANIWA.— Eight . householders were present and Mr D. Macpherson presided. The roll number for the school is 87 and the average attendance for the vear wau 82.1. The annual statement showed a credit balance of £3O. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:— Messrs D. Macpherson (chairman), M. Bruland (secretary), A. S. Ronald, A. Weir, E. K. Steans.

WAIKAKA. — Mr L. Turnbull presided. The roll number for the school is 57. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:— Messrs Turnbull (chairman), Henderson (secretary), Browning Kerse, Gardyne.

BROWNS.— Six householders were present and Mr Dalzell presided. The roll number for the school is 41 and the average attendance for the year was 38.

During the term of the last two years a number of major improvements was carried out including the laying of a concrete basketball court (enclosed) and the purchase of water rights for school services. The following committee was elected for the ensuing term: Messrs L. Dalzell (chairman), M. J. Eddy (secretary), D. Anderson sen., T. Butcher and A. Forde
