PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE FORMED There was a good attendance of the public in the Kennington School to establish a patriotic committee. Mrs James Hargest gave an address on the establishment of the National Patriotic Board and explained the methods to be adopted in raising funds to assist in the provision of comforts, for the troops. After her address it was decided to form a local committee. The following officers were elected: President, the Rev. J. H. Thomson; secretary, Mr Frank McLew; committee, Messrs R. Alexander, J. McLew, sen., D. MeQueen, E. Hargest, J. Waddell, G. White, T. Laurie, J. McQueen. Women’s committee: President, Mrs Riddle; committee, Mesdames Burgess, Cloughley, Fox, Misses M. Burgess and G. Fox. A vote of thanks to Mrs Hargest was passed. LODGE OFFICERS INSTALLED A meeting of the Kennington Rata Rebekah Lodge was held in the Kennington Hall, L.D.D.G.M. Sister Scott being present from Invercargill for the installation of officers. The following officers were installed: N.G., Sister Henderson; V.G., Sister Shields; R. Secretary, Sister Hargest; Secretary, Sister Burgess; Treasurer, Sister Cloughley; 1.P.G., Sister I. Gray; Warden, Sister Shields; Conductor, Sister White; R.S. to N.G., Sister Cloughley L.S. to N.G., Sister Alexander; R.S. to V.G., Sister I. Gray; L.S to V.G., Sister Burgess; 1.G., Bro. Henderson; chaplain, Sister Fairburn. N.G. Sister Henderson thanked L.D.D.G.M. Sister Scott and those who had come out for the installation. Sister Scott thanked members for the welcome and said she hoped that they would enter for the competition and also wished officers a successful term of office. . An enjoyable supper was provided by the Kennington women. Those present were:— L.D.D.G.M. Sister Scott, D.G.M. Sister Stirling, D.G.W. Sister O’Neill, D.G.S. Sister Dale, D.G.R.S. Sister C.
