CENTRAL METHODIST CHURCH
QUARTERLY MEETING That excellent progress was being made and that the church was fulfilling an active part in the religious life of the city was shown in a review of the work of the Central Methodist Church at the quarterly meeting of officials and representatives. It was disclosed by reports that church membership was being maintained at a high level, the church having the highest membership in the Otago-Southland synodal district. The work among the young people was particularly pleasing, and the strength of the Christian Endeavour Society and Young Worshippers’ League with a membership of more than 60 children received special commendation. The church finances were buoyant and contributions during the quarter were a record.
The minister (the Rev. W. H. Greenslade) reported in detail on the visitation and social work being undertaken. It was decided to continue the development of the musical portion of services under the direction of Mr J. E. Taylor, choirmaster. It was decided to inaugurate the second year of the ministry of Mr Greenslade by sending a pastoral letter to all members of the congregation, and to make the services during the winter months as bright and helpful as possible, so that people generally might secure that strength and comfort so desired in these days of world unrest.
