INTERFERENCE WITH WAR EFFORT

ACTION BY GOVERNMENT URGED

(United Press Association)

DUNEDIN, April 17.

A resolution urging the Government to dismiss any servants whose “goslow” policy, or communistic, or subversive tactics were against the country’s war effort, was carried unanimously at the annual meeting of the Territorial Association of Otago today. The meeting was assured by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones), who was present, that the Gov ernment was not going to allow anyone to sabotage the war effort, but at the same time the Allies were fighting for freedom and the right of the people to express their opinions, and they must respect those opinions, provided they did not act detrimentally to the Dominion’s war effort. The resolution was as follows:— “That this annual meeting of the Territorial Association of Otago requests the Government to take immediate action to dispense with the services of any persons employed in the Government departments who, through ‘go-slow’ tactics, communistic, or subversive activities, are detrimentally affecting New Zealand’s production and, consequently, her war effort.”
