BRITISH SUBMARINE LOST

(By Radio—l.ls a.m.) LONDON, April 17

The British submarine Thistle, which has been operating in the North Sea, is now considerably overdue and must be presumed lost. The Thistle was of 1000 tons, with a normal complement of 53 men.

At the start of the war Britain had 57 submarines, excluding those building, and five have now been lost.
