TEACHER NAMED AS CHAIRMAN
PACIFIST MEETING IN WELLINGTON
(United Press Association)
WELLINGTON, April 17.
An advertisement which appeared in the Wellington evening paper of April 9 calling a meeting under the combined auspices of the Christian Pacifists Society and the Peace Pledge Union led to a long discussion by the Wellington Education Board because the advertisement named a teacher as chairman of the meeting. A resolution was moved asking the board to give consideration to the teacher’s action and get the views of the Education Department, but the resolution was defeated, the majority of the members agreeing that the matter was not within the jurisdiction of the board.
Colonel T. W. McDonald, who moved the motion, said that when the board saw the advertisement that one of its teachers was to take the chair at a pacifist meeting, it should realize the effect that it might have on the children. The teacher must reflect his feeling on the children he was teaching. Colonel ' IcDonald concluded his remarks by s..ying, “God Save the King.”
