DEVELOPMENT OF N.Z.
PART PLAYED BY COUNTRY’S ARCHITECTS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 21. “The word ‘restrictions’ is heard loud in the land at present. There are restrictions of imports and building resfrictions which no doubt affect architects,” said the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Railways, when responding to the toast of “Parliament” at the dinner held by the New Zealand Institute of Architects in Wellington last evening. The Minister said the minds of those present went back to the part played in the development of New Zealand by architects. In 100 years an almost miraculous transformation had been effected. It was terrible to think what destruction had been caused in Europe during the Great War and it might be that something similar would occur during the present war. Then it would be for the architects to restore what had been torn down.
