MASTER OF KNOX COLLEGE
DR E. N. MERRINGTON RESIGNS
WISH TO TAKE PART IN MINISTERIAL WORK (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 21. Dr E. N. Merrington, master of Knox Presbyterian College, Dunedin, tendered his resignation to take effect from the end of the year in a letter received by the centennial General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church today. The letter was received and a sub-commit-tee was set up to consider the resignation and report back to a later session of the assembly. Dr Merrington in his letter said he took up duties at the beginning of 1929 in succession to Professor W. Hewit-
son. Since receiving the appointment it had been his constant aim to maintain the high standards of the first master while ever looking forward to the future expansion and beautification of the college. The time of his retirement was due in August next year but he wished to relinquish office before he reached the retiring age in the hope that he might still take, some part in the ministerial service oi the church. “As I lay down the office I do so with a strong conviction of the great value of the college to the church ana university, and with the assurance that Knox College is firmly established for all time,” said Dr Merrington. “Throughout the Dominion and beyond it the good name of the college is being upheld by numerous former students who are seeking to realize the ideals set forth week by week in Ross Chapel and in the life of the college.”
