LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE

LARGE ENTRY OF STORE SHEEP WEAKER MARKET FOR FEED LAMBS FIRMER DEMAND FOR FAT CATTLE Store sheep again dominated the entries in the weekly stock sale at Lomeville yesterday, the entries r this section being many times larger than the sum of all other sections. Store lambs made up the bulk of the entry and the sale was scarcely as firm as it was a week ago. Ewe lambs and other lines in good forward condition sold well, but feed lambs were difficult to sell and prices showed a reduction on the previous market. In the fat sheep market, wethers were in short supply and improved in value, t but ewes showed little change. The fat cattle market opened at a lower rate than last week’s prices, but improved as the sale advanced '’ecause of the operations of a northern buyer and country butchers and prices showed a good advance, the last few races realizing rates equal to those of the good sale a fortnight ago. .... Following are the entries in the individual sections for the last two sales:

Included in yesterday’s yarding were three dairy cows, three vealers and two bulls. Two lines totalling 142 rams were offered. FAT CATTLE The entry of fat cattle showed very little difference in numbers from that of last week, and comprised some good quality cattle of all classes. In the early stages cf the sale prices, especially for cows, were 15/- below those of last week, but the operations of a northern buyer and country butchers for good quality bullocks and heifers, had a stimulating effect on the market in the later stages. For the bulk of the sale, the drop of about £1 a head which occured last week was fully recovered. Prime quality bullocks realized from £l5/5/- to £l6/15/-, handy weights £l4 to £l4/15/-, light sorts £l2/10/- to £l3/10/-; prime quality handy weight heifers £lO/10/- to £ll/10/-; light sorts £9 to £9/15/-; prime quality cows £lO/10/to £ll/10/-, good quality £9/5/- to £lO, medium £B/5/- to £B/15/-, inferior £5/10/to £6/10/-. There was a very small percentage of wethers in the yarding, the majority comprising ewes, of which there were some very good pens. Because of the short supply of wethers there was an advance in prices by about 1/6 a head, but ewes showed little or no variation. Good quality mediumweight wethers realized from 27/6 to 29/6, lightweights 25/- to 26/-, small and unfinished 23/- to 24/-; prime young ewes from 20/- to 22/-, good quality 18/- to 19/-, medium 16/6 to 17/6. There was quite good competition for freezing quality at from 13/6 to 16/-. There was a small entry of fat lambs, which included some extra heavy lambs. Extra prime heavy lambs realized up to 35/3, good freezing weights 24/6 to 26/6, light and unfinished from 20/- to 22/-.
