N.Z. INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS
ANNUAL MEETING OF SOUTHLAND BRANCH There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Southland branch of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers. Mr G. R. Milward presided. The annual report stated that 1939 had been a most successful year, seven meetings having been held at which papers of high standard had been presented by local members and others. An interchange of visits with the Otago branch had been made and was greatly appreciated. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr F. Malcolm Corkill; executive. Messrs E. L. Robinson and J. B. Rowntree; honorary auditor, Mr W. H. Gregory; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr J. G. Perry. A gift of books and two letters written by Faraday to be presented to the Institution Library were received from Mr W. H. Gregory. The retiring president, Mr G. R. Milward, gave an interesting address on the development of bridge design during the last century.
