EASTER BOWLS TOURNAMENT
RINKS AND PAIRS EVENTS LOSS ON SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS A decision to conduct a bowling tournament at Easter has been made by the management committee of the Southland Bowling Centre. Events in pairs and rinks will be played, the pairs to be played on Good Friday rinks on Easter Saturday and the finals on Easter Monday. . The committee also decided at a meeting this week to carry out the recommendation of the annual meeting of the centre that players for the Southland team to meet Otago in the Harroway Shield match at Invercargi on February 10 be selected from those nominated by the various clubs in Southland. Players selected will be asked to pay 2/6 each towards the cost of entertaining the Otago team. It is probable that a smoke concert will be held on the evening of the match and a motor tour arranged for the Sunday afternoon. , , A provisional balance-sheet or the expenses for the South Island championship tournament showed that there will be a loss of about £22. The fixtures committee was empowered to make the draw for the three Southland championship events, rinks, pairs and singles, and also to I select the greens on which the championships will be decided. The four leading teams in this competition will play off, the first game to be played on January 30. Following is the draw: Te Rangi v. Southland; Waihopai v. R.S.A.. The remaining rounds will be drawn after the completion of the first round of the fourrink championship.
TOWN DEFEATED BY EASTERN ANNUAL TOURNAMENT AT MATAURA The annual bowls match between Town and Eastern was played at Mataura last evening and resulted in a win for Eastern by 28 points.
