VALUABLE CARGO SALVAGED

WORK ON THE WAIKOUAITI

Cargo of an estimated value of £7OOO was removed from the Waikouaiti on Tuesday, when 40 drums of white spirit were brought to Bluff. Another 30 drums were taken off yesterday, the salvage vessel Orewa showing excellent results for only two days’ work. The remainder of Tuesday’s salvaged cargo comprised bales and cases of cotton goods. The cargo salvaged yesterday also consisted of cotton and linen, a large reel of wire cable, being ship’s gear, and a bale of carpet felt. Fine weather in Foveaux Strait during the past few days has been of great assistance to the men engaged in the salvage work.
