TERRITORIAL FORCE ASSOCIATION
GOOD WORK RECOGNIZED BY GOVERNMENT
The monthly meeting of the executive of the Southland Territorial Force Association was held last week when the following were present: Messrs C. B. Tapley, Bell, P. Linton Hodge, G. W. Broughton, L. A. Blackmore, T. McKenzie, J. Picard, M. B. O’Toole, Major Lees, Lieutenant S. Taylor and Major H. C. McKenzie.
Mr Tapley was appointed chairman for the ensuing year and Mr T. McKenzie was appointed secretary and treasurer. The chairman welcomed several new members to the executive and stated that -they hoped with the present strong executive, to carry on better than ever, the work of looking after the territorial soldiers. He pointed out that the association, though it began as an independent body, had done such good work in looking after the interests and welfare of the territorial, that it had been recognized by the Government and all the present rules and regulations were drawn up by the State, which now controlled the association’s activities.
Mr P. Linton Hodge reported that he had arranged for a concert party to attend the camp at Gore on the evening of January 23. A sub-committee was formed to make presentations to active territorials who are proceeding to camp for the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Private J. F. Daniel was proceeding to Burnham and he was given a presentation at an afternoon tea attended by several members of the executive.
