SOVIET FORCES NOWHERE SAFE FROM ATTACK

BIG BATTLE AMONG FORESTS ON FRONTIER (United Press Association-Telegraph Copyright) (Received December 28, 10.10 p.m.) HELSINKI, December 28. The Finnish commander in the north, General Wallenius, states that the Finns are operating 40 miles within Russia, as far as Kandalaksha, a Russian base on the White Sea. He adds that the frontier woods extending far into Russia are full of Finnish patrols. The Russians are nowhere safe from attack.

“Wherever the Russians break through we must have enough men to stop them,” said General Wallenius. “One battalion for a division suffices. If the war continues for two years we shall not have enough men.” The Finnish Northern Army has taken 5000 Russian prisoners in a big battle that lasted throughout the day among the frontier forests.
