Changeable with Showers (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, December 20. Following is the .special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to fresh winds from a westerly quarter. Weather changeable, with showers and fine intervals. Moderate to mild temperatures. Seas moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— For the most part fair, unsettled, however, in southern portions of the South Island, with scattered showers extending later to Wellington and Taranaki. Temperatures warm in the east and north; mild elsewhere. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone extends from Chatham Island across the North Island, while a depression is passing in the south. Winds.—Light and variable in the northern half of the North Island; otherwise moderate to strong northwesterlies predominating, but changing at times to south-westerly in the south. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea, fresh to strong westerly wjnds and rather rough seas in the southern portion; moderate westerly winds and moderate seas elsewhere. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine, although fairly dull. A strong, westerly wind blew throughout the day. This morning at one o’clock the weather was cold and clear, with a light wind from the west. The barometer readings for this morning, Wednesday and Tuesday have been:— This morning (rising) 30.08 in.
