OBITUARY

MRS E. J. FOORD Dunedin lost another old identity in the death of Mrs Foord, who passed away at Roslyn on Thursday last. Mrs Foord was born in Paisley, Scotland, m 1854, and arrived in Dunedin with her parents, Mr and Mrs Malcolm Renn, on August 20, 1860, on the Pladda. She lived in Dunedin during her school days, but went to Arrowtown when that town was known as Fox’s. Her husband, Mr Edwin James Foord, who had arrived in Dunedin on the Southern Cross in 1856, predeceased her in 1898, She had 12 children, seven of whom are still living—Mrs R. Mackay (Melbourne), Mrs W. G. Mouat, Mrs M. Blair, and Mr F. F. Foord (Auckland), Mr E. G. Foord and Mrs V. R. Watcott (Dunedin).

PIANOFORTE RECITAL

MISS MARY FITZGERALD’S PUPILS On Saturday night in the Southland Women’s Club rooms the pupils of Miss Mary Fitzgerald, L.T.C.L., L.R.S.M., entertained their parents and friends with a pianoforte recital. Mr J. MurrayWilson, on behalf of Miss Fitzgerald, extended a welcome to those present. During the evening, solo and ensemble work of an exceptionally nigh standard was heard, and at the conclusion Miss Fitzgerald was the recipient of several bouquets. The following was the programme:— Pianoforte solo, “Falling Leaves (Furze), Allison Harvey; ‘An Old Garden” (Swinstead), Laurence Lyons; “Dance of the Toads” (Bamford), Erm Gibson; pianoforte duet, “The Merry Peasant” (Schumann), Patricia Rea and Jeune McCallum; pianoforte solos, “Lullaby” (Brahms). Margaret McLean; “Harbinger of Spring (Rolfe), Grace Smith; “Plaintive Waltz (Somervell), Peggy Strang; pianoforte duet, “Minuet” (Beethoven), Maree Ferguson and June Campbell; pianoforte solos, “Fairyland Music” (Piaget), Betty Rodger; “From the Highlands (Carse), Marjorie Lange; vocal duet, “O, The Pleasant Spring” (Mendelssohn), Dorothy McKenzie and Hilda May Strang; pianoforte solo, “Siciliano” (Schumann), Maree Ferguson; pianoforte duet, “In Hanging Gardens’’ (Davies), Valerie Thomas and Raynor Huffadine; pianoforte trio, “Intermezzo” (Aletter), Olive Dawson, Joy Price and Dorothy McKenzie; pianoforte solo, -“A Curious Story Heller), June Campbell; pianoforte duet, “11 Bacio” (Arditi), Norma Gregg and'Ailine Dalzell; pianoforte solo, “Waltz in A Flat” (Chopin), Margaret McCallum; pianoforte trio, “The Three Students” (Collins), Jim Gregg, Bevin Stewart .and John Lindsay; pianoforte solo, “Polonaise in A” (Chopin), Brian Dalton; vocal duet, “Hush! ’Tis the Twilight” (Batiste), John Lindsay and Pat Fitzgerald, pianoforte duet, “Rhapsody” (Koelling), Joyce Tonkin and Isabelle Lange; pianoforte solo, “The Sleigh Ride” (Tschaikowsky), Margaret Carrie.
