MAGISTRATE’S COURT
(Before Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M.) “This youth was able to cash the cheques with ease,” said Detective Sergeant R. Thompson when commenting on the attitude of shopkeepers who accepted cheques from unknown persons. “I cannot understand why business people accept cheques from apparently anyone who comes along.” The case was one in which Arthur Edward Redditt, a youth of 18 years, was charged with five charges of obtaining goods by false pretences. He pleaded guilty. The Magistrate convicted Redditt and granted him probation for a period of two years. He ordered him to make restitution of a sum of £2l/6/-.
