MOVE TO RESCIND MOTION

TRADES COUNCIL AND WAR (United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, December 18. Notice of motion to rescind a resolution passed two weeks ago about the war was given at a meeting of the West Coast Trades and Labour Council at Greymouth on Saturday afternoon. This will be dealt with at a meeting of the council in about three weeks. The resolution mentioned described the war as “another Imperialist struggle” and called on the Government to explain why New Zealanders are expected to fight and to give a definite assurance that conscription would not be introduced. Afterwards, exception was taken to this resolution, which was in the form of a remit to the annual conference of the Federation of Labour next year by the State Miners’ Union, the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the Dredge Workers’ Union, and the Greymouth Harbour Board Employees’ Union. NO SUPPORT FOII MOTION WESTPORT, December 18. The Wellington Nelson, and Westland General Labourers’ Union at Westport carried the following motion at a recent meeting:—“That this meeting of union workers dissociates itself from the resolution concerning war passed by the West Coast Trades and Labour Council.”
