Control of Game
Representations made to the Minister o£ Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) for the future control of fresh water fish and wild game life have been deferred for consideration in the New Year. Advice to this effect was received from the Minister at the annual conference of South Island acclimatization societies in Christchurch last week. The president (Mr G. L. Pomfret-Dodd) said the Minister had been approached concerning his recent announcement to place control in the hands of the State. A committee had been set up by the National Executive to prepare a report for submission to the Minister, making suggestions for the control of acclimatization work. This report had been submitted to the Minister, who had replied that he would not be able to give it any consideration until the New Year. The report embodied suggestions for improving the knowledge of the societies of fresh-water fisheries and wild fowl life, recommendations for conservation of game, proposals for the co-ordination of acclimatization societies ’..ith the Department of Internal Affairs and the Marine Department and suggestions for improving finance. No action was taken by the conference.
