DELAY IN PACIFIC AIR SERVICE
NO INFORMATION ABOUT RESUMPTION (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, December, 15. Interviewed about the cabled statement from America that the resumption of the Pacific air service might not be long delayed, the Postmaster-Gen-eral (the Hon. F. Jones) said no definite information about the likely dateof starting could be obtained from the Pan-American Company. Mr Jones announced that postage rates for letters would be: To New Caledonia, 1/- each half ounce; to Hawaii, 2/6 each half ounce; to the United States of America, including internal air transit in the United States, 4/- each half ounce; to Great Britain and Europe via Australian and Union Airways, 6/3 each half ounce. ' Postcards will be one-half above these charges in view of the possibility that the first mail might be sent on short notice. He recommends early preparation of postings of all letters. The first flight will be distinctively marked. Letters in other than English should be posted well in advance of the advertised closing time. There is no definite provision for the forwarding of letters to Canton Island, but the Minister was hopeful that the Post Office would be able to make suitable arrangement about this.
