KENNINGTON

SCHOOL CONCERT The annual concert of the Kennington School was held in the Kennington Hall. Before the start of the concert Mr D. McQueen, chairman of the school committee extended a welcome to all present. Master lan Paterson was the official announcer. At the conclusion of the programme Mr McQueen congratulated the staff on the excellent work of the children. He expressed the thanks of the teachers for valuable assistance given by Mr A. Peters in the construction of stage equipemnt.» After supper a dance was held, the music being supplied by the Novelty Dance Band. Mr J. Alexander was master of ceremonies. EXCURSION COMMITTEE The annual meeting of the Woodlands District Schools’ representatives was held in the Kennington School, Mr W. Hackett (Woodlands) presiding over the following: Messrs D. Pye (Railway department, Woodlands), G. Browning and G. Maxwell (Longbush), A. Sutherland and L. Burgess (Kennington) and W. J. McKenzie, Myross Bush (secretary). The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows: Chairman, Mr Hackett; secretary and treasurer, M. McKenzie. The committee decided that the excursion would be held at Bluff on Saturday, February 10. The train would depart from Woodlands at about 9.20 a.m. and leave on the return journey from Bluff at 4.40 p.m. A stop would be made at Invercargill each way.
