ON INVERCARGILL TRACKS

Several Smart Sprint

Trials

MONA’S SONG’S SOUND MILE

Several smart sprint tasks, in which Spendthrift, Eire’s Ruin, Remembo and Colonel Rouge were seen to advantage, were a feature of training operations at Invercargill yesterday morning, when the inside grass track was in use. The weather was bright and fine and the going very fast. Wild Career and Mondello both shaped well over seven furlongs and Sea Lady, Sailing Lady and Mona’s Song pleased over a mile. Trebleack (Barclay) was allowed to run an easy five on nis own, taking lmin 9 3-ssec. The Woodend gelding is being taken along quietly and it was an easy task for him. ■ Spendthrift (Strathem) narrowly beat Eire’s Ruin (Forde) oyer five furlongs in lmin 3 2-ssec, the last half in 50 3-ssec. Spendthrift, whose recent work has been of a good standard, was doing particularly well at the post. Eire’s Ruin has plenty of speed and is staying on much better. Sailing Lady (Barclay) beat Jedburgh (Humphries) over a mile but there was little pace on in the early stages, the first half taking 55 3-ssecand the journey lmin, 46 4-ssec. They ran the last five in lmin 4 l-ssec and the last half in 51 3-ssec. The firm going did not suit Jedburgh but Sailing Lady was doing her work well within herself. SMART *”VE

Remembo (Barclay) and Colonel Rouge (Forde) beat Ackemma (Humphries) by three lengths over five furlongs in lmin 2 4-ssec, the last half in 50 3-ssec. This represented a particularly good trial as Remembo could have done better. Colonel Rouge is very forward but Ackemma did not hit out in her usual style. Ocean Singer (Low) and Green Locket (Home) ran an easy half mile in 55 2-ssec, neither being asked for anything better. Ocean Singer has been in work for some time. Green Locket, a half-sister to Chirp, is a recent addition to Low’s team. Sparkle (Strathem) and Milford (Forde) were under a good hold in running a mile in lmin 49sec, the pair finishing together. They ran the first three in 42 2-ssec, the half in 56 3-ssec and the last half in 52 2-ssec. Both look well and they could have done better. Boswell (Humphries) and Doubleack (Barclay) were together at the end of a mile in lmin 49sec, the first three in 42sec and the last half in 53 3-ssec. Boswell rarely gives his best on the tracks and had to be shaken up to be with Doubleack at the post. MONA’S SONG WELL Mona’s Song (Ellis) jumped away at the mile and was joined by Gold Robe (Preston )at the seven. The first three took 41 2-ssec, the half 53 3-ssec, the mile lmin 45 l-ssec and the last half 51 3-ssec. Mona’s Song is in great order at the present and she finished on very strongly. Gold Robe, who is probably a better horse now than at any other stage of his career, was right with her at the post. Sea Lady (Barclay) ran a mile on her own in lmin 46sec, the first three in 40 2-ssec and the last half in 53sec. The Lord Warden mare now works much more soberly and this was a solid effort considering that the way she finished on.

Wild Career (Humphries) ran seven furlongs in Imin 30sec, the last five in Imin 5 l-ssec and the last half in 53 l-ssec. He did his work in sound style all the way. Sir Denis (Wilson), My Song (Preston) and Lucky Feather (Ellis) finished in that order at the end of five furlongs in Imin 6 l-ssec, the last half in 52 3-ssec. Sir Denis, a half-brother to Milford, has improved with recent work while My Song has always shown some ability. Lucky Feather ran wide at the turn and lost several lengths. FLAT-FOOTEF START Pink Bond (Connor) and Ardmayle (Ellis) were standing flat-footed when they jumped away from the mile post, taking 61 2-ssec to run the first half and the journey in Imin 55 l-ssec, the last half in 53 4-ssec. Both could have done better. Mondello (Barclay) jumped away from the seven furlong post, running the last six in Imin 17 2-ssec, the last five in Imin 4sec and the last half in 51 3-ssec. She did it in easy style. Blissful Lady (Barclay) and King’s Chorus (Rowland) were together at the end of six furlongs in Imin 18sec, the last half in 52 3-ssec. Their work has been of a good standard and both are to race at Wingatui. Royal Money (Connor) and Silkwood (Ellis) ran half a mile in 53 3-5-sec, finishing together. Silkwood has been in only a short time but she is in great health. Royal Money has shown useful speed at times. Several other horses were worked including: Corowa, Matchem, Aspire, Amelita and several youngsters.

Liberate (Taylor) and Guste (Boyle) were schooled over three hurdles and then tackled four fences of the main steeplechase course. Both acquitted themselves well, particularly over the bigger country. On the plough Ortyx (Low) ran five furlongs in Imin Bsec, the last half in 53 4-ssec. It was an easy' task for the Lord Warden mare. AUSTRALIAN PACERS FOR NEW ZEALAND (Received December 12, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 12. The trotting owner and driver, W. A. O’Shea, leaves for New Zealand this week with the pacers Springfield Globe and Brilliant Globe.
