OBITUARY

MR R. M. PATERSON PROMINENT SOUTHLAND RUNHOLDER (Special to The Times) DUNEDIN, December, 6. The death occurred in the Southland Hospital today of Robert M. Paterson, of Ayrbum Station, Arrowtowri, at, the age of 65 years. Mr Paterson spent practically all his life in the Arrowfp'wn district and took over management of the Ayrbum Station after the death of his father. He also owned Mount Aurm Station, Skippers, and held a large interest in the West Dome Station, Mossburn, where he had lived for the past four years. He was a foundation member of the Lake County Agricultural and Pastoral Society and succeeded his late father as president, holding this position 1 for several years. Last year he was made a life member of the society. Mr Paterson took an active interest in racing and was for many years a member of the Lake County Jockey Club. He was the owner of the horse, Pride of Clutha, which was successful in local racing events. Mr Paterson married Miss Ethel Davidson, of Dunedin, in 1900, his wife predeceasing him by four years. He is survived by four sons and three daughters, Messrs R. Paterson (Dunedin), E. C. Paterson (Arrowtown), A. Paterson, G. D. Paterson (Mossburn), Mrs D. R. Rowe (Mossbum), Mrs Moir and Miss F. Paterson. He has a brother residing in London and a sister, Mrs Blathwayt (Hastings). MR GEORGE G. HORNER The death has occurred at “Timboon,” Oreti, of Mr George Groves Horner, a well-known farmer of the Oreti district. As a young man he was a prominent cricketer and represented Canterbury on the playing field, while he took a keen interest in other branches of sport. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs Fanny Horner, and two daughters, Mrs W. Baird (Ohai) and Mrs J. Malcolm (Nightcaps), and two sons, Messrs T. Homer and M. Horner (Bayswater). He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs H. Thornley (Sumner) and Mrs A. Pearce (Papanui), and one brother, Mr F. Horner (Winton).
