LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE

DOUBLE MARKET YESTERDAY

VALUES FOR EWES RISE BY 7/LARGE YARDING OF FAT CATTLE The market at the weekly Lorneville stock sale yesterday was a double one, as no sale will be held next week because of the Centennial Royal Show. The fat sheep entry was not nearly sufficient for two weeks’ requirements and values for ewes rose by 7/- a head and prices for wethers by 4/-. The fat cattle entry was a large one and included really good quality beasts of all classes. Late rates were fully maintained. The store cattle entry of 417 beasts was the largest for some time. A feature of the yarding was the consignment of cattle from Martin’s Bay on account of David Gunn. Despite a long trek, the cattle were in fine condition. The following are the yardings in the individual sections at the last two sales:—

Included in yesterday’s yarding were 19 bulls, 21 dairy cows, 7 vealers. FAT CATTLE

STORE CATTLE The store cattle entry was the largest for some considerable time. The feature of the entry was the consignment of cattle from Martin’s Bay on account of David Gunn. These cattle penned up remarkably well after their long trek of three weeks or more from the coast. Other good lines were forward and the market was good for all classes. Best store bullocks made up to £l2/11/-, others bringing from £9 to £lO/19/-. Two-year-old steers made from £6/10/- to £8 and best empty heifers realized up to £B/7/6, others from £6 to £7. A pen of good, empty cows brought £B/2/-, others making from £4/10/- to £6, cull sorts down to £3. A line of Black Poll Hereford Cross yearling steers made £6/8/-, the heifers out of this line making £5/14/-. Other coloured yearlings sold at late rates.

There was a small entry of dairy cows, most of these being of inferior quality. Prices, consequently, were not high. There was very little demand for bulls. Henderson and Co., Ltd., sold: Account R. T. Fraser (Bay road). 1 dairy cow at £7/5/-, 1 at £6.
