MARIST HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT

LARGE ATTENDANCE IN CIVIC THEATRE

The Marist Brothers’ High School’s annual concert, which was held in the Civic Theatre last night, attracted a large attendance. A first-class entertainment was provided by the boys, the standard of whose performance showed that they had gone to great pains in practising and in general preparations, and the audience was quick to appreciate their efforts. The programme was as follows:—“God Defend New Zealand”; (a) opening chorus, (b) “The Admiral’s Broom”; action song, “The Sneezing Song” by the invalids; recitation, “Betty Botter exceeds the speed limit”; vocal solo, “Almond Blossoms,” Master D. Kelly;' competitive choruses, (a) “Make for old Waikiwi,” Standards 3 and 4, (b) “Why do they call me Archibald” Standards 5 and 6; popular farce comedy, “The Raw Recruit “Blisters”' characters: Captain Gadzooks of the Army, D. Hoffman, Private McGillicuddy, a raw recruit, D. McDonald; part songs, (a) “The Sailor’s Lullaby,” (b) “Fisher Lads”; farce “Tragedies” Forms II and IV; . statue drill; choruses, (a) “But it is so,” (b) “Whispering Hope”; choruses, (a) “The Wreath” (three parts), (b) “Joyful Echoes” (two parts); sailor’s hornpipe, Master D. Hoffman; gymnastic display, Forms I and II; humorous recitation, “Johnny eats too much,” by Four Guilty Gluttons; musical monologue, “The Game of Life,” R. Ferry; chorus, “Hush! ’tis the Twilight” (two parts) select chorus; one-act play, “Eyes in the Dark,” characters: Tim, a poacher, D. O’Sullivan, Dicky, a poacher, G. Streatfield; Jenkins, a keeper, D. Pottinger, Lord de Vere, a professor, M. Grace. The accompanists were Miss M. Fitzgerald and Miss M. Winders. |
