Scattered Rain (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, December 5. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Fresh to strong winds between north and west; weather cloudy to overcast with scattered rain. Temperature mild to warm. Sea rough. Following is the Dominion forecast.— Weather continuing fair to fine in the north and in eastern districts north of Otago; cloudy to overcast elsewhere with unsettled conditions soon developing in the far south and extending gradually up the west coast with scattered showers possible as far north as the King Country. Temperatures warm east of the ranges;

mild elsewhere. General Situation.—Pressure continues high in the north while a depression is passing to the south of the South Island.

Winds.—North-easterly in parts of the North Island but directions between north and west predominating. Force moderate in north, fresh to strong elsewhere with gales in places. Seas—New Zealand waters, rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, north-westerly winds. Moderate in the northern portion with moderate seas, strong to gale force elsewhere with rough seas. A change to south-westerly winds probable later in the southern portion. The weather at one o’clock this morning was mild, and overcast, with occasional light showers.
