EVENING MEETING AT DRUMMOND SUCCESSFUL GATHERING A bright, well-varied programme, keen competition in most events and a large attendance of both local and Invercargill athletes made the evening sports meeting of the Drummond Amateur Athletic Society last Saturday one of the most popular and successful fixtures held by the society for some time. Rain which fell during the evening made the tracks heavy but failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors. An important part of the programme was the dancing events which drew record entries. Because of the wet weather these events were held in the hall. Three cycling races were held and were marked by big entries and keen competition. The most successful runner of the evening was J. J. Shand, of Rimu, who won both the 220 and 440 yards handicaps. Two field events were eliminated because of the rain, but good entries were received for the remaining event —the shot put. ; Results: TRACK EVENTS HALF-MILE CYCLE HANDICAP (17 entries). —A.
