Oreilo’s Absence It was intended to start Orelio in the \ Pupuke Plate at Ellerslie on Monday, but he struck himself while sprinting with Arvakur in the morning and this necessitated his withdrawal. Orelio, who was allowed to forgo his engagement in the Takapuna Plate on Saturday in favour of his stablemate Anion, promised to start a • short-priced favourite after his good second to Beaulivre in the Great Northern Guineas and his attractive work in the meantime. His trouble is not regarded as serious and he is expected to be fit to compete at the summer carnival at Ellerslie.

Fine Record Golden Sheila, who won the Alison Cup under 9.6, has now collected £4220 in prize-money. A victory in the Shorts Handicap at Ellerslie promised better things at four years, but she won only one other race in that term. A year later she was doing only moderately well when it was decided to try her over longer distances, and she was beaten by only a head in the Herries Cup by Llangollen, and she captured one of the main autumn events at Ellerslie. Her earnings for the season amounted to £1390. Already this term Golden Sheila has accounted for the Spring Handicap at Ellerslie, the Hamilton Handicap and the Alison Cup, worth £1390. Golden Sheila is by Gay Shield (half-brother to Beau Pere) from Madam Ruth (Lackham-Lady Marie), and closely related to Gay Blonde and Gay Sheik.
