SCHEDULE OF FARES FOR TAXIS ANNOUNCEMENT TO BE MADE LATER A schedule of fares for the taxi cab industry in tire No. 4 District, e eluding Dunedin, was given by the No. 4 District Licensing Authority (Mr v. Raines) at the Gore courthouse yesterday. Mr Raines said that he had been investigating the taxi cab industry a stated he would give his. final decision about the fares after hearing the Invercargill operators. The schedule of fares he had under consideration was as toilo’vs: CITY AND SUBURBAN TRIPS (1) One or two passengers, first half mile 1/-; each additional half mile up to 4-10ths mile 6d; each additional passenger 6d for journey; luggage up to 561 b for each passenger, free; exceeding 56tb, 6d; bicycles, 6d for journey. (2) Between midnight and 7 a.m. 1/a journey shall be added to all fares. (3) Waiting time, 6d for each five minutes or part thereof after the first 10 minutes. COUNTRY TRIPS Over six miles return: One or two passengers, 6d a mile each way; three, four or five passengers, 7d a mile each way; six dr more passengers, 8d a jmle each way; waiting time, 3/- an hour or part thereof. OTHER HIRES Funerals: One hour, 7/6 a car. Weddings: Decorated cars, 15/- each for first hour, then 10/- for each succeeding hour; plain cars, 10/- each for first hour, then 7/6 each for succeeding j hours. Not more than one adult passenger shall be carried in the seat beside the driver. Records shall be kept showing time of departure, time of return, driver’s name, number of car, speedometer reading out and in, place from and to, number of passengers carried, cash fare, booked fare, accounts paid and remarks. » EXAMPLES OF FARES Up to 4-10ths mile: Two passengers 1/-, three 1/6, four 2/-. , Half mile and up to 9-10ths mile: Two passengers 1/6; three 2/-, four 2/6.. One mile and up to 1 4-10ths miles: Two passengers 2/-, three 2/6, four 3/-. One mile and a-half up to 1 mile and 9-10ths: Two passengers 2/6, three 3/-, four 3/6. Two miles: Two passengers 3/-, three 3/6, four 4/-. Applications for taxi cab licences were granted D. H. Cameron (Mataura), H. R. Dawson (Gore), A. W. Trapp (Gore), R. Craig (Gore), G. Houston (Gore), Red Band Taxis (Gore), J. Walders (Gore), Wylie Garage, Ltd. (Tapanui), Mrs G. Abernethy (Gore), and H. E. McDonald (Mataura).

The transfer of a goods service licence from J. C. Rendall to W. W. Knowles was granted. R. A Ryan, of Gore, was granted a licence to operate two rental cars at Mataura.

Applications by J. Patel, of Gore, and C. E. Goodall, of Lumsden, for continuous goods service licences were granted.
