OBITUARY

MR A. S. HENDERSON Mr Arthur Silverthorne Henderson, who died at Christchurch last week at the age of 67, was formerly well known in Invercargill, where he was educated and began his banking career. He was the eldest son of the late Mr A. C. Henderson, who was a solicitor here, and at the age of 18 he obtained a position with the Bank of New Zealand. About 35 years ago he was transferred to Gore and also served in the bank’s branches at Dunedin, Greytown, Whakatane and Rakaia, where until his retirement four years ago he was manager. After he retired he went to live in Christchurch. Mr Henderson, who had been in ill-health since March, was a member of the Invercargill Football Club before he was' transferred from here. At Dunedin he took an active interest in cricket and latterly was a keen bowler. Mr Henderson’s y wife, who survives him, was the digest daughter of the late Mr George Featherstone, of Invercargill. There is a family of 11. The eldest son is serving with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Mrs E. E. Broad (Invercargill), Mrs Walter Hunter (Riverton) and Mrs Percy Royds (Alexandra) are sisters of Mr Henderson. MR SYDNEY C. BINGHAM (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, December 4. The death has occurred of Mr Sydney Clifton Bingham, aged 78 years, a Past Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge of New Zealand. He also took part in local body affairs.
