Strong Westerly Winds (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, December 4. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Strong winds from a westerly quarter and some scattered showers probable on coastal areas; otherwise weather mainly fair and mild. Seas rising. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather for the most part fair to fine at first, becoming unsettled, however, in Westland and <in the far south, with scattered rain ing. Temperatures mild and warm. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone is centred to the north and pressure is falling in the south. Winds.—North-easterly at first along the Canterbury and Otago coasts, but otherwise moderate to strong. Winds between north-west and south-west prevailing and later reaching gale force in some exposed positions about and south of Cook Strait. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough on the west coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, fresh north-westerly winds and moderate seas in the northern portion, with strong winds from a westerly quarter; rough seas in the southern portion. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine, with a warm north-westerly wind. This morning at one o’clock the weather was cold. The sky was clear, and there was a strong south-easterly wind blowing. The barometer headings for this morning, Monday, and Saturday, have been:— This morning (falling) 29.65 in. Monday 29.80 in. Saturday 29.50 in.
