SOUTHLAND PEOPLE “HONEST”
ATTITUDE TO TRAFFIC INSPECTOR
“I know of instances in other parts of the country of sober motorists refusing to give any information ,when stopped by traffic inspectors, but I have not had that experience in this province. The people here seem to be honest” This remark was made in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday by Traffic Inspector J. C. Edwards when being examined by Mr N. L. Watson. The case was one in which a man was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car. “I suppose you have met men who were perfectly sober, but who were antagonistic towards you because you were an inspector,” remarked Mr Watson. “Yes, I have known men of that type,” the inspector replied. “Have you not had the experience of motorists in a sober condition refusing to give information that you have requested, such as their names and addresses?”
“No. The people in this province seem to be honest.”
