MAORI FRIENDS PAY TRIBUTE
MISS HUNT’S MEMORY HONOURED
A striking tribute to the regard in which Miss Helen Hunt was held, was made by her many Maori friends, who had started very early in the morning to arrive at Riverton in time to pay their last tribute. A long cortege of cars followed the hearse to the cemetery, the casket being covered with floral tributes. The Rev G. P. Mitchell, of Isla Bank, conducted the funeral service and paid special tribute to the long and faithful service of Miss Hunt. The bearers were Messrs J. S. A. McDougall and W. Clarke (representing the Southland Hospital Board) and T. Borland, A. B. Helm, F. Dodd and G. Finlayson, representing other associations. Other representatives from the different organizations with which Miss Hunt was associated included the Hon. Adam Hamilton (Leader of the Opposition) and Mrs Hamilton, Mr W. J. A. McGregor (Wallace County Council). Dr Pottinger, Mr W. Norman and Miss H. Birss (Southland Hospital Board), Mr Tracy King (Riverton School Committee) and others. The flag was flown half-mast from the Riverton District High School on the day of the funeral, as a mark of respect.
