DANCING AND PIPING DISPUTE
To The Editor Sir, —I should like to comment on a statement in a letter which appeared in your columns a week or so ago, that during the .conference ct the Town Hall at which the late Mayor, Mr Miller, and also the late Mr J. Forbes were present, I had made mention that- Mr A. Sutherland had no option but to join the Pipl- - and Dancing Association. As this statemen', is slightly misleading, and in fairness to the parties concerned, I must, point out that what transpired was that Messre Sutherland and Watts came to a friendly agreement to bury all past grievances. Both.-letters to that effect were, handed to me, and since they were of a private nature, the contents were not disclosed. Mr Sutherland’s letter was the first received.
The. Dominion Council’s letter to myself, being also of a private nature, has nothing to do with the issue at stake. I seldom take part in any newspaper controversy, but I think that the statement referred, to, in fairness to all, requires this explanation.—Yours, etc., MACKENZIE FORBES. Waipukurau, December 1, 1939.
