WOMEN’S DIVISION

WAIKOIKOI BRANCH The Waikoikoi branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held the final meeting of the year in the Waikoikoi hall, when there was a good attendance of members. Mrs M. Stark gave an interesting talk on hygiene dealing with food values. A short demonstration on making bandages was also given. Mrs J. McCall and Miss J. Macnee won a competition “kitchen utensils. Miss E. McKenzie won first prize for the best Christmas cake. Miss B. Robertson was second and Miss J. Macnee third. In the best decorated vase of flowers, prizes were awarded to Mrs G. Simmers (ranunculus) 1, Miss M. McCall (ranunculus) 2, Miss E. McKenzie (aquiligias) 3. CROOKSTON BRANCH The November meeting of the Crookston branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was presided over by Mrs Fleming. There was a large attendance of members. Miss Wright gave a demonstration on tatting, showing some very pretty specimens of her work. The roll call, “Exchange of plants, was well answered, many plants being exchanged by members. The best bloom competition was won by Miss G. Pullar, and the best sponge sandwich competition was won by Miss G. Fleming. Arrangements were made for a dance on December 28. WALLACETOWN BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Wallacetown branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Mrs J. Gray presided over a large attendance. Miss Deacon a new member was welcomed. Arrangements were made for the'flower show to be held in February. Mrs Gray asked Mrs L. Blakie, whose home was recently burnt to accept a number of gifts for her new home. Mrs Blakie replied. The following members contributed items: Duet, Mrs and Miss R. Lilico; solos, Mesdames Malcolm and A. C. Gray. A competition for modelling false teeth was won by Mrs A. C. Gray and Mrs Walker. Monthly competitions resulted: Heaviest dozen hen eggs, Mrs Young and Mrs Brown 1 equal, Mrs W. L. Gray 2, Mrs L. Ronald 3; best decorated vase of flowers, Miss E. Haugh 1, Miss N. Gray 2, Miss E. Ronald 3; best bloom, Mrs G. Gray 1, Mrs Jolly 2, Mrs Ronald 3; junior, Miss E. Ronald 1, Miss N. Gray 2, Miss L. Ronald 3.
