HAWKE CUP MATCH TARANAKI’S CHALLENGE TO WAIKATO (United Press Association) HAMILTON, November 30. The Hawke Cup cricket match between Waikato, the holders, and Taranaki opened today. The match did not begin until 2.30 because of rain and at the close of the day’s play the position was very open. . Taranaki was sent in to bat and lost two wickets in the first over and eventually was all out for 87. W. E. Barker played brightly for 30 and the captain C. Lash, defended stubbornly for 25 not out. Clough took five wickets for 26 runs. . , . , Waikato had 45 runs without loss and then lost three wickets without further additions. At stumps the score was 62 for three wickets.
