ON INVERCARGILL TRACKS

Wild Career’s Good Mile

HURDLERS SCHOOLED AT WINGATUI

Yours Truly is to be shipped to Australia this week.

Holiday Meetings The nominations for the majority of holiday meetings will be taken next week.

Stud Item Lucy Locket, the dam of, Chirp, is this season to be mated with Philamor.

Retired U InAstral Light, a four-year-old sister to Xstral Flash, has been retired from racingand has been mated with Woodend.

Two Winners The Son-in-Law horse, Philamor, waTrepresented by two recent winners in Rarotonga in the Lwn Handicap (one mile and a-quarter) and Play Un, over one mile and a-quarter.

Riders for Kurow Both Travenna and Exult will be ndden in their Lnlon “d c»b.t » their respective races.

Sovereign Lady Sovereign Lady, who has rarely raced awav from her home course at Riccarton during the last two seasons, is to undertake the trip to Dunedin at Christmas. She will prooably be accompanied by one of the two Myosotis two-year-olds in her stable.

May Improve While Siegmund disappointed at Otaki on Saturday he did not run a bad race, and possibly he had enjoyed just a trifle too easy a time since the New Zealand Cup meeting. Further racing should see an improvement in him, for he is very well at present.

Monipere Amiss The hard tracks have found a weak spot in one of Monipere’s shoulders, and he is to be eased in work until softer tracks prevail. Monipere has been schooling well over hurdles during the past few weeks, and it is unfortunate for his owner that he should go amiss just now.

Hurdling Recruits Pilot’s Love and Gusterina gave a splendid exhibition of schooling oyer six hurdles at Wingatui on Tuesday morning, states The Evening Star, Dunedin. They had plenty of pace on, and excepting for Gusterina hitting the last hurdle fairly hard both horses jumped well. Floodtide

Floodtide, always the favourite in the Alison. Cup, was never in a winning position, and for the greater part of the trip he was one of the last three. He improved his position a little coming to the home turn, but he was then too far back to have winning prospects. However, he ran on into sixth place, and improved to finish third on Monday. Highly Rated

The two-year-old colt Cheddington made a big impression on good judges in Auckland on Saturday. He was well supported to win at his first start, but ran greenly. Cheddington is built on generous lines and is regarded as likely to be one of the leading juveniles before the end of the season. He is trained by F. Davis for Mr W. H. Gaisford, who bought his dam Silver Rule at the Westmere stud dispersal. Silver Rule had a foal at foot, now racing under the name of Silver Stick, and she was in foal to Phaleron Bay, the progeny being Cheddington. One good judge writes to say that Cheddington is the best he has seen since High Caste. Invercargill Tracks

Bright sunshine favoured training operations at Invercargill yesterday morning and a good amount of useful work was carried out. The course proper, with the poles out about 30ft, was in use.

Ackemma (Barclay) and Sir Denis (Humphries) finished together at the end .of six furlongs in lmin 19 l-ssec, the last half in 52 3-ssec. Both put plenty of dash into their work. Boswell (Humphries' and Doubleack (Barclay) ran a mile in lmin 49 l-ssec, the last half in 54 4-ssec. Boswell was always doing his work within himself, while Doubleack also pleased. Sailing Lady (Barclay) cantered down to the mile post, where she was joined by Jedburgh (Wilson), the pair running the mile in lmin 50 4-ssec, the first two in 30 2-ssec, three in 44 2-ssec, the half in 57 4-ssec and the last half in 53sec. Sailing Lady was under a strong hold right through. Erin’s Star jumped away at the five and was joined at the half by Remembo and a five-year-old mare by Balboa from Flying Mist, the half being run in 50 2-ssec. Remembo and. Erin’s Star, who were both doing it well, were well clear of their mate. Mona’s Song (Ellis) and Lucky Feather (Preston) sprinted half a mile in 51 2-ssec, with the former doing it much the better. On his own Wild Career (Humphries) ran a mile in lmin 48 2-ssec, the last half in 54sec. This was the best of the morning and he did it well. Pink Bond (Ellis) beat Ardmayle (Barclay) over seven furlongs in lmin 34sec, the first three in 38 2-ssec and the last half in 55 3-ssec.

Spendthrift (Boyle) and Ocean Singer (Low) were schooled over four hurdles. Spendthrift completed his task in good style but Ocean Singer was inclined to run about. Liberate and Guste jumped three hurdles. Liberate dropped his rider the first time, but completed the task in good style. Guste’s display was a sound one. Landlaw Probably the most promising horse in Melbourne today is Landlaw, a Frenchbred son of Portlaw. Until the C. B. Fisher Plate doubts were entertained about his ability to stay, but he showed in that race that a strong mile and a-half is not beyond him, and as he becomes more seasoned he may play an important part in the autumn. Landlaw is rated as a four-year-old, and as he is a late foal he is required to concede Australian four-year-olds a lot in age. Third Win Ureklaw, who was scoring his third successive victory over fences when he won the Tiri Hurdles at Ellerslie on Saturday, is jwned and trained by Mr J. H. Greenhead, of Rotorua, whose colours Erination carried until the be-

ginning of the present year and who appears to have in him another jumper capable of rising to the first ranks. Ureklaw is a seven-year-old brown gelding by The Ace from Debit, who was by Musketoon out of Dutchie, by Armagh out of Dido, by Soult. Debit, who was foaled in 1929, never raced, and she went to the stud at two years, as Ureklaw was foaled in 1932. A halfsister by The Ace to Debit named Dutch Ace, a close blood relation to Ureklaw, was a winner at Tauranga last season for his breeder, Mr W. Walker, who bred Ureklaw and sold him to Mr Greenhead about three years ago.
