ACCESS TO RADIO WANTED

EXPLAINING DIFFICULTIES OF FARMERS (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 30. Permission for representatives approved by the Dairy Board, in conjunction with the National Dairy Conference, to have reasonable access to the National Broadcasting Service for the purpose of placing before the people the present problems and difficulties of the dairy farmers is to be sought from the Government. A remit to this effect moved by Mr W. Harbutt on behalf of the South Auckland Dairy Association, was carried unanimously at the dairy conference today. He said it was necessary for all sections of the community to know what was happening throughout the country and for those in the cities to appreciate the difficulties under which the farming community was labouring. It would be better for the Dominion as. a whole if the workers were more in sympathy with the farmers through a knowledge of their problems. Mr A. J. Sinclair, in seconding the remit, said the unfair manner in which the Government was monopolizing the air at present was causing great dissatisfaction among farmers. Farmers had a right to let the people in the cities know the reason for their present dissatisfaction. BIG EXPENDITURE ON RADIO STATION OPPOSITION EXPRESSED BY CONFERENCE (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 30. Opposition to the expenditure of £70,000 on the new building for the commercial radio station IZB was expressed by delegates at the dairy conference and a remit was carried protesting to the Government. Speakers expressed the opinion that the expenditure was not justified while the country was at war. The mover, Mr P. Davies (Bush District), said that if the Government wanted propaganda the Labour Party should pay for it. Mr C. P. Agar regretted the mention of politics. The remit should be taken, he said, on an economic basis without consideration of party and no matter what Government was in power there would have been a protest against such expenditure during the war.
