Mr W. Grieve, president of the Invercargill Chamber/of Commerce, was appointed at yesterday’s meeting of the chamber to attend a meeting of the Southland Patriotic Council on Monday.
Mr L. W. Spencer has returned to Invercargill after a tour of England and France. \
Mr A. Derbie, general manager of the Southland Frozen Meat Company, returned to Invercargill by the afternoon express yesterday after a brief visit to Dunedin.
Dr J. G. Macdonald has received advice that his son, Mr Gair Macdonald, has passed his final examination in medicine and surgery at Otago University. Mr Gair Macdonald’s success carries the practice of medicine into the fourth generation. Mr A. K. Fagan, of the Public Works Department, Balclutha, has been selected as a non-commissioned officer in the special force and will go into camp at Burnham on December 9.
A high tribute to Mr T. C. Brash, who recently retired from the positions of secretary and chief executive officer of the New Zealand Dairy Board after 53 years’ association with the dairying industry, was paid at the Dominion Dairy Conference yesterday when he was presented with an electric clock and a pair of brushes on behalf of the delegates.—Press Association. The appointment of Mr W. S. Wheeler as Consul for Portugal at Wellington was gazetted last night.—Press Association.
