GREAT NORTH CHINA TROUPE
ENTERTAINMENT IN CIVIC THEATRE The Great North China Troupe presented (its second programme in the Civic Theatre last night before a large and appreciative audience. Each member of the troupe presented a finished performance that held the attention of the audience from start to finish, and the mystifying manner in which ■ the acrobats, jugglers and conjurers performed their acts made the show one of the most remarkable that has ever been seen in Invercargill. Clad in the colourful and richly embroidered satins of the East, the members of the company presented a magnificent spectacle of Oriental splendour which, with the rich staging effects, added to the atmosphere of mystery in which many of the spectacles were shrouded. In addition to the purely Chinese side of the programme there were several European variety turns, one of the most outstanding of which was the ventriloquist act by Royston and his two dolls, Jackie and Nellie. Royston is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished and versatile ventriloquists who have ever visited Invercargill. Another popular feature was the singing of Master Herbert Young, the Chinese Bobby Breen The troupe will present another performance in the Civic Theatre tonight.
