SALE OF TRENCH FIGHT

CHANGE OF TRAINERS FOR DICTATE (Special to The Times) CHRISTCHURCH, November 18. Riccarton trainers are making plans for travelling to different parts of the Dominion for the Christmas and New Year holiday meetings. There may not be so many horses as usual for the North Island, but the extension of the Dunedin meeting to three days may attract additional patronage to Wingatui. After many inquiries in the last few months, including three during the recent race meeting at Riccarton, Trench Fight has found a new owner. The trustees of the late Sir Charles Clifford disposed of him at the end of the week to Mr W. Stubbs, a new patron of C. C. McCarthy’s stable. He is a six-year-old by Winning Hit from Scrimmage, and started racing as a three-year-old. He quickly showed good form and was a close second to Wild Chase in the New Zealand Derby. After that he made his name chiefly through his deeds over mile races, the Jockey Club Handicap at Riccarton falling to him at three and five years. It is probable that he will start racing for his new owner at the summer meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club. % A. Macaulay has parted with the six-year-old Dictate, as Mr M. O’Brien, his owner, has decided to train the Chief Ruler gelding himself. Macaulay had Dictate for about four years, and did very well with him, as he won 11 races and was placed 24 times. His form for a long time had been consistent, but very tantalizing. He has not won a race since the Motukarara spring meeting last year, though he has been placed 12 times. His record of placings includes thirds in the Great Easter Handicap, two Great Autumn Handicaps, the Auckland Cup, and the New Zealand Cup, so his form has been good and a turn of luck will see him win an important race at any time. Rebellion, a gelding he owns in partnership with Mr W. S. Bennett, is also being trained by Mr O’Brien.

None of Dr M. G. Louisson’s team will be raced during the holidays. Benevolent and the, two-year-olds, Don’t Forget and Whiphand are having a spell for a month or two before being tried again in the autumn. Don’t Forget is one who should benefit from this treatment. He was a late foal, a fact which enhances the value of the form he displayed in the last few weeks. F. D. Jones has Sweet Mystery, King’s Toast and Lord Lynn engaged at Ashburton. . Other members of his team are having a short rest, but will resume work probably this week. Royal Chief will not do much for some time as he will not be needed for racing again until the autumn. WIN FOR TUTOR IN ENGLAND (Received November 19, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 18. The MANCHESTER NOVEMBER HANDICAP resulted:— TUTOR 1 WAYWARD 2 MISS BEINN DEARG 3 Twenty-four started. Won by four lengths, third a head away.
